Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) Deputy President, Datuk Eric Majimbun, congratulated Upko for a job well done for bringing up the issue of IC issuance.
Eric, who is also Member of Parliament for Sepanggar, however questioned why the BN government is not doing anything to rectify the outstanding citizenship problem faced by those genuine Sabahans who were born before Merdeka Day.
"Most of those outstanding cases involved true Malaysian Sabahans who were not absorbed as citizens while foreigners from nearby countries could easily obtain citizenship.
"Likewise, the case of my surname being used by a foreigner till todate, neither action was taken nor answer was given to my query.
"Presently, I was informed that JPN (National Registration Department) is registering folks in islands around Lahad Datu and Semporna ...it was also known that people from other districts too come for the registration and I wonder who is authorized for endorsement of these applicants.
"As incorporated in the Registration of Birth and Death enactment, Sabah registration ordinance, no registration should be done without the presence of a first-class magistrate. This procedure is silent in the present Malaysia Law.
"I urge the Registration Department to adhere to the Sabah law and focus on the department's dignity and integrity." Eric stressed.
